Fruity

The tree is big and rich of fruit
I take one apple down
The color persuades the taste
not yet is it ready to give.
I pick one apple off the ground
become the one
I never hoped for, myself.

  1. Maddy, I read this poem by Milosz a couple of days ago. Wanted you to read it and see if it sheds any light on your own poem.

    Window

I looked out the window at dawn and saw a young apple tree
    translucent in brightness.

And when I looked out at dawn once again, an apple tree laden with
    fruit stood there.

Many years had probably gone by but I remember nothing of what
    happened in my sleep.

  2. The image of the fallen fruit is enadearing. It’s both a leap of faith and an act of humility. When we touch the ground we somehow surrender, we relinquish, we offer wholeheartedly without holding anything back.

This is perhaps why prostration and bowing are important practices in so many traditions; when we touch the ground we offer and in offering we give up the things we have been holding on to.

Trust again I suppose; there is a time for the seed, there is a time for the blossom and then there is a time the fruit needs to ripen; to mature is to allow the fruit to fulfill its journey of growth. To ask when is already to step outside that organic process….So trust again I suppose.

  3. Thinking of the poem "Window" and how it stirs "Fruity" made me write a new poem. Thank you for commenting on my poem, really made me think and I'm Happy to be a piece of this sharing.

    Title:
    Over and again

    Had.
    Lost and found
    found and lost.
    Loosing truth to find
    loosing is finding.
I'm lost and I have found:
feels like forever because forever is now.

  4. 'losing is finding!' much is said here.

losing is letting go of all the things we are holding on to out of fear of being left empty handed....

without the usual attachments, which could be to objects, relations, notions of myself, ideas of who i wish to become, who am i? where do i stand?

if this is my truth then by losing it i open myself to the possibility of finding out what this sense of loss can bring me

it is by letting go, losing the familiar ground, that we create a sense of openness where the unknown can come and reveal to us that:

    losing is finding.

it's for each one of us to find out for ourselves in which way for that is the very sense of our uniqueness; that the unknown manifests itself to us each time differently: that's where the mystery lies, i suppose.

it's only in the present that we can taste the eternal, that which is nowhere, not in the past, not in the future, not even in the now....it is nowhere, it cannot be grasped, it cannot be found, it simply is....it is that which has the quality of infinite spaciousness...unending expanse of time.....

it comes from nowhere, dwells nowhere and goes nowhere.....

here is comes 'over and again'....

    thathata.....it simply is

the morning star glittering at the end of the night...
